Sharon Hammer BakerWorks with cotton, silk, linen, and wool fibers on traditional hand looms to create unique woven liturgical stoles and paraments (pulpit cloths). She designed and wove her first stole as an ordination gift for a friend, and now creates original and custom designs for clergy, churces and congregations of all denominations and faiths. Each original design represents the weaver's ongoing search for simplicity and harmony in life, and the celebration of the Spirit. All stoles are woven as a single piece and are finished with warp fringe. Inlay and applique techniques are used to incorporate symbols from world religions in some of the designs.Sharon has studied with fiber artists and weavers throughout the United States and has earned degrees in art and education. She's been an active weaver and studio artist for over 25 years. Her fiber works have been included in many juried, group and solo exhibitions, and have been selected for commissions and awards. In addition to weaving, Sharon teaches workshops and classes for children and adults, and is a gardener, writer, and poet. |
