The Rev. Laurie Bushbaum

Laurie refers to herself as a "woman of the cloth," because in addition to being a minister, she is also a textile artist. At age 15, she inherited an unfinished quilt started by her great-grandmother. That quilt became a source for her most powerful spiritual metaphor.

She says, "Each of us is a quilt in the making..."

For her, "ministry" means sharing the work of living well. "Art" is creating meaning, integrity, and beauty in our lives. Ministry and art are inseparable. Each task we undertake requires deep faith and extraordinary presence to do the work lovingly and with vision; they are just different shapes of trying to see the Holy in as much of our life as we can.

She continues to learn about bringing sacredness to all space, all time, all being. Her textile work is a source of meditation and play. Needle through thread is her prayer, her path to comfort and clearer understanding. This work keeps her both grounded and able to take new risks.
