Kok Heong McNaughtonHas always enjoyed delicate lace pieces. When she saw lovely lace cloths with traditional Christian symbols, she was inspired to create a way to make lace with chalice symbolism available to Unitarian Universalists. The technique she drew upon is Filet Crochet, which works like needlepoint. Squares are either filled or empty, and by filling the appropriate squares, a design is created. Besides Altar and Pulpit cloths, she's made a double-chalice valence for her church's office window, a table runner that incorporated a Celtic Knot, and symbols of wedded bliss, including the Chinese character of Double Happiness. She designs and crochets both pulpit and altar cloths using the Filet Crochet technique, so other UUs can enjoy lace pieces in their worship settings too. |
