The Rev. Judith Smith Valley
A quilter for twelve years, Judith acknowledges that for her, it has
become a spiritual practice. She describes it: "Focusing on my
piecing or on the task of hand quilting stitches joins mind and
body, much like yoga. Add the breath of creative spirit and you
have a peaceful experience." In addition, I enjoy completing an
item. Ministry, like housework, is never finished -- something
else always needing attention. A particular quilted piece is
done when the last stitch goes in. The satisfaction is immense.
I call my efforts "The Parson's Piece Work."
Joining her love of color and fabric with a traditional braided
pattern to create a clerical stole for worship, she asks,
"What better way to exercise my creative spirit than for
garments used in worship?" Other items may be made to order.
